At the last meeting the Board had requested that Dr. Phil Morgan, <br />Dr. Schofield, The Sheriff, and the,County Judge be present to discuss the <br />request of the Medical Association that the County hire a medical examiner. <br />The Chairman stated that all were present and called on Dr. Morgan first <br />to present the views of the Medical Association, after which Dr. Schofield, <br />Miles Mank and the Sheriff all gave their thoughts on the matter. After' <br />some discussion the Chairman thanked them for coming and stated that the <br />Board would give more thought to the matter before taking any definite <br />step. <br />The County Engineer then stated he had tabulated the above bids <br />and stated that J. R. Furlong and Co. were the low bidder with a price of <br />$3404.00 per unit. Upon Motion made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded <br />by Commissioner McCullers and unanimously carried, the bid was awarded to <br />the low bidder - J. R. Furlong & Co. <br />The County Attorney stated that he had received the Attorney <br />General's Opinion on the questions he had written for some time ago regarding <br />the Indian River County Hospital. He read the Opinion and stated that <br />the Attorney General is the final authority of the Board and peoples of the <br />State of Florida. Upon Motion made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by <br />Commissioner McCullers and unanimously carried, it is herewith noted that <br />the Board of County Commissioners received the Opinion of the Attorney <br />General dated November 16, 1959 with respect to the Indian River County <br />Public Hospital, and the records and funds and the levy of taxes pertaining <br />thereto, and order the Opinion filed and directed that the conclusions of <br />the Attorney General as set forth in the Opinion be carried out. <br />Sam Bradley was recognized by the Chair and stated that St. Lucie <br />County and some of the other Counties were employing professional appraisers <br />to appraise all lands in the County and further stated he thought the <br />Board could hire professional appraisers at a cost of around $74,000.00, <br />then after the appraisal was made that the Tax Assessor could set his <br />assessments accordingly. The Board told Mr. Bradley they would take the <br />matter under advisement. <br />The County Attorney again brought up the matter of a Resolution <br />giving the Florida Railroad and Public Utilities the right to regulate <br />rates, etc. on water and sewer franchises. After some discussion in the <br />matter the Board requested the Secretary contact the several owners and <br />developers in the County who are putting in their own water and sewers <br />systems, and request that they be present at the meeting on the 15th to <br />discuss this matter. <br />
