Indian River Count 0y Page ' 4
b)Iprot)evIeirts to 53"t Street & Old Dixie Higl wq7 Project h'o. PSL- 08-2558 (BG 11. 4)
Laboratory Testing
1 . Laboratory examination (classification) of the material samples and physical property
tests of same to establish their plasticity, gradation, organic content , moisture content,
LBR and corrosion potential . Consolidation testing; may be performed on soft
cohesive soils should they be identified in the borings conducted in the unimproved
roadway section.
Reporting
L Preparation and submittal of a report that presents results for the roadway soil survey
and structures investigation as detailed in Chapter 9 of FDOT's Soils and Foundation
Handbook (2006) . The report will address plastic and/or organic soils (limits and
volume), if present, projected water table levels, and design/constiuction options to
deal with plastic/organic soils and perched water (e. g. , medians) . The report will
include cross-sectional profiles of the subsurface conditions with soil classifications.
Our geotechnical budget does not include costs for rental of earth moving equipment to access
heavily vegetated or un-level terrain areas. Our intent will be to adjust the boring locations so as
to avoid. the need for clearing activities.
Where necessary, we assume that access to the roadway aligrunent through private properties
will be coordinated by the County.
We strongly recommend that the roject surveyor survey the horizontal uric/ vertical positions
of the borings and piezoineters. This data (elevations) is key to establishing cut depths for
unsuitable soils and alae seasonal /high ground;vater levels (elevations).
SCHEDULE
Following receipt of your written authorization to proceed, we estimate that aur schedule for the
geotechnical work will be as follows:
• Projectstart=up, boring layout and utility clearance — 1 week
• Field exploration-2 weeks
• Laboratory testing — 2 -to 3 weeks
•
. Engineering analysis, ,preparation and submittal of draft report — 2 weeks
• Finalize report - 1 week
SCHEDULE TOTAL : 8 to 9 weeks
Dunkelberger
