Sufficient to allow thorough compaction of backfill adjacent to <br /> bottom half of pipe . <br /> e . Do not use excavating equipment that requires the trench to be <br /> excavated to excessive width . <br /> 4 . Depth of trench shall be as shown on the Drawings or Specifications , <br /> as applicable . <br /> 5 . Refer to the Supplement to Section 02220 , Trench Details and General <br /> ' Trench Notes , at the end of this Section (4 pages ) . <br /> F . Material Storage : Stockpile satisfactory excavated materials in approved <br /> areas . Place , grade and shape stockpiles for proper drainage . <br /> 1 . Locate and retain stockpiles of soil materials away from edge of <br /> excavations . <br /> ' 2 . Dispose of excess soil material and waste materials as specified <br /> hereinafter. <br /> 3 . 4 REMOVAL OF MUCK , ROCK , AND OTHER UNSTABLE MATERIAL <br /> A . If the ENGINEER determines that the soil conditions encountered at the <br /> bottom of the excavation are unsuitable for foundation material then remove <br /> and dispose of the unsuitable material and replace with "Type 3 " material as <br /> specified in paragraph 2 . 1 . C . Remove the unsuitable material until suitable <br /> bearing material is encountered . The ENGINEER shall determine the <br /> extent of excavation required . Unsuitable material includes muck , clay , <br /> roots , heterogenous fill material , and any other organic or similar materials . <br /> Unforseen items such as buried trees , timbers , abandoned utilities , metal <br /> objects , concrete masses , and the like , shall also be removed from the <br /> excavation area . <br /> Be Removal of unsuitable foundation material within areas that will receive <br /> footings , slabs , or other foundations shall be completed for the full area <br /> under each structure and to five feet minimum outside the structure's <br /> perimeter.
