' C . All excess excavation due to unsuitable material must be field verified by <br /> the ENGINEER . Otherwise , the OWNER will not pay for the excess <br /> ' excavation or its subsequent replacement with Type "3 material . " <br /> 3 . 5 UNAUTHORIZED EXCAVATION <br /> A. All excavation outside the lines and grades shown , together with the <br /> removal and disposal of the associated material shall be at <br /> CONTRACTOR'S expense . The unauthorized excavation shall be filled and <br /> compacted with "Type 3 " material as defined in paragraph 2 . 1 . C , by <br /> CONTRACTOR at his expense . Claims and damages resulting from <br /> ' CONTRACTOR's unauthorized excavation will be his sole responsibility . <br /> 3 . 6 SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON EXCAVATION SAFETY AND TRENCH <br /> CONSTRUCTION <br /> A . The following are complementary to these Specifications : Occupational <br /> ' Safety and Health Administration ' s (OSHA' s ) trench safety standards , 29 , <br /> C . F . R . , s . 1926 . 650-652 Subpart P , and all subsequent revisions or updates <br /> adopted by the Department of Labor and Employment Security; and <br /> ' Florida ' s Trench Safety Act ( Florida Statutes Chapter 553 Part VI — Trench <br /> Safety Act ) . If there is any duplication , redundancy or conflict between the <br /> stipulations of these Specifications and those governmental standards , the <br /> ' most stringent requirement shall govern . Consider these and any more <br /> stringent trench safety standards as minimum Contract requirements . <br /> B . It is the CONTRACTOR's responsibility to ensure that excavations do not <br /> endanger workmen , existing structures , utilities , or other facilities . If such <br /> conditions occur which may endanger workmen , existing structures , utilities <br /> ( or other facilities , immediately install and maintain adequate sheeting and <br /> bracing per OSHA specifications . Cease all work until the sheeting and <br /> bracing has been properly and completely installed . Install the sheeting and <br /> ' bracing in a manner that will allow removal without injuring or endangering <br /> workmen , the work , adjacent structures , and the like . Promptly and <br /> completely fill all voids caused by the withdrawal of sheeting with sand and <br /> compacted to a degree equal to the surrounding soil . Remove the sheeting <br /> as the work progresses or, at the discretion of the ENGINEER , cut the <br /> ' sheeting off below finished grade and leave in place . Sheeting and bracing <br /> may be either steel or wood at the option of the CONTRACTOR . <br /> ' 3 . 7 SHEETING , SHORING AND BRACING <br /> A .
