' 1 . Used material shall be in good condition , not damaged or excessively <br /> pitted . All steel or wood sheeting designated to remain in place shall <br /> be new . New or used sheeting may be used for temporary work . <br /> 2 . All timber used for breast boards ( lagging ) shall be new or used , <br /> meeting the requirements for Douglas Fir Dense Construction Grade <br /> with a bending strength not less than 1500 psi or Southern Pine No . 2 <br /> Dense , <br /> 3 . All steel work for sheeting , shoring , bracing , cofferdams etc . , shall be <br /> designed in accordance with the provisions of the "Specifications for <br /> the Design , Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings" , <br /> of the AISC except that field welding will be permitted . <br /> ' 4 . Steel sheet piling shall be manufactured from steel conforming to <br /> ASTM A328 . Steel for soldier piles , wales and braces shall be new or <br /> used and shall conform to ASTM A36 , <br /> 5 . Maintain shoring and bracing in excavations regardless of time period <br /> excavations will be open . Carry down shoring and bracing as <br /> excavation progresses . <br /> ' 6 . Safe and satisfactory sheeting , shoring and bracing shall be the entire <br /> responsibility of CONTRACTOR . <br /> i B . Removal of Sheeting and Bracing : <br /> 1 . Remove sheeting and bracing from excavations unless otherwise <br /> ordered in writing by ENGINEER . Removal shall be done so as to not <br /> ' cause injury to the Work and shall not effect backfill compaction . <br /> Removal shall be equal on both sides of excavation to ensure no <br /> unequal loads on pipe or structure . <br /> ' 2 . Defer removal of sheeting and bracing , where removal may cause soil <br /> to come into contact with concrete , until the following conditions are <br /> satisfied : <br /> ' a . Concrete has cured a minimum of 7 days . <br /> b . Wall and floor framing up to and including grade level floors are in <br /> place . <br /> C . Sheeting left in place : If directed by the OWNER'sP roject representative , <br /> sheeting shall be cut off by the CONTRACTOR during backfill operations <br /> and left in place . Payment shall be made under the applicable item . <br /> ' 3 . 8 TRENCH SHIELDS <br /> A .
