' B . When using a shield for pipe installation , the bottom of the shield shall not . <br /> extend below the mid -diameter of installed pipe at any time . <br /> ' C . When using a shield for the installation of structures , the bottom of the <br /> shield shall not extend below the top of the foundation bedding for the <br /> structures . <br /> D . When a shield is removed or moved ahead , extreme care shall be taken to <br /> ' prevent the movement of pipe or structures or the disturbance of the <br /> bedding for pipe or structures . Pipe or structures that are disturbed shall be <br /> removed and reinstalled as specified . <br /> 3 . 9 PRE - BACKFILLING/ FILLING REQUIREMENTS <br /> ' A . Before placing fill or backfill the following must be completed : <br /> 1 . Observation and recording locations of underground utilities . <br /> 2 . Removal of all concrete formwork . <br /> 3 . Removal of all below grade shoring and bracing , and backfilling and <br /> properly compacting all voids with satisfactory materials . <br /> 4 . Permanent or temporary horizontal bracing is in place on horizontally <br /> supported walls . <br /> 5 . Placement of settlement plates . <br /> 6 . Acceptance by ENGINEER of construction below finish grade , <br /> ' including dampproofing and waterproofing . <br /> 7 . Removal of all trash and debris . <br /> 8 . Fill or backfill shall not be placed against concrete structures until they <br /> have attained their specified compressive strength . <br /> 9 . Prepare ground surfaces for buildings and roads to receive fill as <br /> follows : Remove all vegetation , debris , unsatisfactory soil materials , <br /> obstructions and deleterious materials from the ground surface prior to <br /> placement of fill . Plow or break- up sloped surfaces steeper than 1 <br /> vertical to 4 horizontal so that the fill material will bond with the existing <br /> surface . When the existing ground surface has a density less than that <br /> which will be required for the fill material , the ground surface shall be <br /> plowed , pulverized , and compacted to the density which the fill material <br /> ' is to receive . <br /> 10 . Compaction Requirements : As a minimum , compact the top 1400t of <br /> all areas that will require fill/backfill and compaction , to a minimum <br /> 98 percent of maximum dry density .
