2 . Flooding or puddling with water to consolidate backfill will not be <br /> permitted . <br /> ' F . Refer to the Supplement to Section 02220 , Trench Details and General <br /> Trench Notes , at the end of this Section (4 pages ) . <br /> ' 3 . 13 CONSTRUCTION OF EMBANKMENTS <br /> ' A . To the maximum extent available , use excess earth obtained from structure <br /> and trench excavations for construction of embankments . Import additional <br /> material from borrow pits as necessary . After preparation of the <br /> ' embankment area , level and roll the subgrade so that surface materials of <br /> the subgrade will be compacted and well - bonded with the first layer of the <br /> embankment . All material deposited in embankments shall be free from <br /> ' rocks or stones , brush , stumps , logs , roots , debris , and organic or other <br /> objectionable materials . Construct embankments in horizontal layers not <br /> exceeding 8 inches in uncompacted thickness . Spread and level material <br /> ' deposited by excavating and hauling equipment prior to compaction . <br /> Thoroughly compact each layer by rolling or other methods . <br /> ' 3 . 14 GRADING <br /> A . General : Uniformly grade areas within limits of grading under this Section , <br /> ' including adjacent transition areas . Smooth subgrade surfaces within <br /> specified tolerances , compact with uniform levels or slopes between points <br /> ' where elevations are shown , or between such points and existing grades . <br /> The tops of embankments and breaks in grade shall be rounded with a <br /> minimum radius of 6 feet . All surfaces shall be free of roots , debris , and <br /> other deleterious material . <br /> ' B . Grading Outside Building Lines Grade areas adjacent to building lines to <br /> drain away from structures and to prevent ponding . Finish surfaces free <br /> ' from irregular surface changes , and as follows : <br /> 1 . Turfed Areas or Areas Covered with Gravel , Stone , Wood Chips , or <br /> ' Other Special Cover: Finish areas to receive topsoil or special cover to <br /> within not more than 1 inch above or below the required subgrade <br /> elevations . In areas to receive sod , the finish grading shall allow for <br /> ' the thickness of the sod so that the new sod will match the existing <br /> sod , pavement , walks , etc . <br /> 2 .
