and dewatering shall comply with the applicable requirements of Section 02220 of <br /> these Specifications and the requirements of the applicable authorities . <br /> 3 . 4 INSTALLATION <br /> A . Installation of Steel Casing Pipe by Boring : <br /> 1 . The boring method shall consist of pushing the pipe into the soil with a boring <br /> auger rotating inside the pipe to remove the material . <br /> 2 . Install in accordance with FEC requirements and these Specifications . In the <br /> event of a conflict , the more stringent specification shall govern . <br /> 3 . Design bracing and backstops and use jacks of sufficient rating such that jacking <br /> ' can be accomplished in a continuous manner until the leading edge of the pipe <br /> reaches the final positions shown on the Plans . <br /> 4 . Provide the front of the casing pipe with suitable mechanical arrangements or <br /> devices that will positively prevent the auger and cutting head from leading the <br /> pipe so that there will be no unsupported excavation ahead of the pipe . <br /> 5 . The equipment and mechanical arrangements or devices used to bore and <br /> remove the 'earth shall be removable from within the casing pipe if an obstruction <br /> is encountered . <br /> 6 . The face of the cutting edge shall be arranged to provide reasonable obstruction <br /> ' to the free flow of soft or poor soil . <br /> 7 . Do not use water or other liquids to facilitate casing emplacement or spoil <br /> removal . <br /> 8 . If voids develop around the casing pipe as it is bored , pump cement grout to fill <br /> all such voids . <br /> 9 . Fill all voids as specified hereinafter as soon as possible after completion of <br /> ' boring operation . <br /> B . Obstructions : If an obstruction is encountered during installation to stop the forward <br /> action of the casing pipe , and it becomes evident that it is impossible to advance the <br /> pipe , remove obstruction at the leading end of the casing pipe . No blasting shall be <br /> permitted . <br /> C . Installation of the Carrier Pipe : <br /> 1 . After completion of the steel casing pipe , install the carrier pipe and pressure <br /> test it by an approved method . <br /> 2 . Take care to prevent undue disturbances of the joints . <br /> ' 3 . Lay the carrier pipe to the line and grade shown on the Plans . <br /> 4 .
