to intersect with U. S. 441, and recommending that the County Commissioners <br />obtain rights of ways and authorize preliminary surveys in advance of the <br />possible extension of the Florida Turnpike. The Board requested this <br />Resolution be filed. <br />The Deputy Clerk stated that the pews that had been taken out of the <br />Courtroom were in the basement and that inquiries had been made as to <br />whether the Board was interested in selling them. After some discussion <br />in the matter, Motion was made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by <br />Commissioner McCullers and unanimously carr-ied, that these pews should <br />be advertised for sale to the highest bidder. <br />The Chairman read a letter from the Gifford Recreational Center <br />thanking the Board for their letter of congratulations and requesting <br />help from the County for the clearing of the yard around the Civic Center <br />and also some fill. The Board requested the County Engineer do this work <br />for them. <br />Curtis Hunter, Teacher from the Gifford High School was recognized <br />by the Chair and requested the use of a voting machine sometime in May <br />to be used for their school elections. The Board stated they would have <br />to check with the Supervisor of Registration to see what could be done, and <br />would let him know. <br />The County Attorney made a report that the State Road Department has <br />estimated that the cost of building A -1-A from its Northern limits to the <br />Sebastian Inlet will be around $750,000.00 and this County's cost of the <br />bridge would be about $250,000.00 or a total of around $1,000,000.00. He <br />further stated the height of the bridge would have to be about 39 feet. <br />The County Attorney also stated that nothing had been settled as yet <br />• with the Florida Inland Navigation District on the Wabasso Island Park but <br />that he is still working on it. <br />He also reported he had received word that all of the major special <br />acts for this County had been passed with the exception of the building code, <br />and he would see what he could find out about this. <br />
