s , <br /> 23 .02 Laid-off employees shall retain seniority in the Fire Department for a period of two (2) years <br /> after lay-off. If a lay-off goes beyond one ( 1 ) year, the Employer will be obligated to recertify <br /> the employee with the State Minimum Standard Course with no cost to the employee. <br /> 23 . 03 An employee shall lose seniority if the employee voluntarily quits or is discharged for cause, <br /> V <br /> mmediately upon the employee's last day in a work status. An employee shall be considered <br /> a voluntary quit if the employee is absent three (3) consecutive duty shifts without prior <br /> approval from, or notification to , the Fire Chief or his or her designated representative. <br /> ARTICLE 24 <br /> BEREAVEMENT LEAVE <br /> 24. 01 Regular full time bargaining unit employees covered by this agreement shall be granted up to <br /> one and one-half ( 11 /2) shifts of leave with pay if services are in state and two shifts if out of <br /> state for death in their immediate family without charge to medical leave, annual leave, <br /> holiday time, or other accumulated time, subject to the terms of the applicable District Rules <br /> and Regulations. <br /> 24. 02 For the purpose of this article, the immediate family shall consist of Spouse, Children and <br /> Step-Children, Parents and Step-Parents, Grandmother, Grandfather, Grandchildren, Brother, <br /> Sister, Mother-in Law, = Father-in-Law, Son mi Law, Daughter-in-Law, Sister-in Law, <br /> Brother-in-Law, Step-brother, Step-sister, or Legal Guardian ofthe bargaining unit employee. <br /> 24 . 03 Employees may be required to provide documentation supporting their request for <br /> bereavement leave. <br /> 24 <br />
