EDUCATIONAL COURSES <br /> Approved and accredited Department related educational courses are a minimum of 40 hours or 40 <br /> hour blocks . Any documented courses given by colleges , Fire/EMS or public safety agencies , or <br /> private companies that are job related and approved by the educational committee . <br /> Examples of educational courses are as follows : <br /> All FFP courses <br /> ACLS <br /> ICS <br /> IAFF classes <br /> PALS <br /> Haz-mat <br /> WMD <br /> Educational courses will receive 1 point each . <br /> EDUCATIONAL COMMITTEE <br /> The Educational Committee will meet and approve of all college degrees, certifications and <br /> educational courses for scoring prior to the promotional board meeting to recommend the filling of <br /> vacancies in the department . <br /> The Educational Committee shall consist of the following : <br /> The Fire Chief (or his designee) and two members of staff. <br /> The Union President (or his designee) and two members at large . <br /> In the event of a tie vote for approval or disapproval , the Fire Chief (or his designee) will have the <br /> tiebreaker vote . <br /> All employees shall have a folder created in their training file to maintain the documentation of each <br /> employee ' s educational points . The educational committee shall review all education <br /> courses/certifications to be used for promotional scoring by the promotional board before the <br /> promotional board meets . <br /> It is the responsibility of each employee to present current educational documents for their folder in <br /> their training file , and not assume it is up to date . If the documentation is not there, it shall not be <br /> considered. <br />
