T
EOSYNTEC CONSULTANTS
Mr. Tanhum Goldshmid
Indian River County, Solid Waste Disposal District
3 May 2005
Page 6
numbers, etc . ) contained within each drum, the generation date, and contact in rmation. If
any of the development/purge water generated during field activities is generally free of
particulates , this water will be treated by the on-site P&T system and not staged in drums .
Waste characterization sampling and analysis will be performed consisteni with IDW
activities performed during previous contaminant assessment phases of work at the site.
Two composite samples will be collected from the drums containing drill cutt ngs . These
two samples will be submitted to US BioSystems for analysis by Toxicity Qlaracteristic
Leaching Procedure (TCLP) for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) metals,
VOCs (EPA Method 8260) , and semi-volatile organic compounds (EPA Method 8270) .
The costs for laboratory analysis of the TCLP samples has not been included herein since it
is anticipated that the laboratory analytical charges will be directly billed to IRC by US
BioSystems . The analytical results will be used to assess whether or not the IDW is
characteristically hazardous and to evaluate appropriate disposal options . These drums will
be marked as indicated earlier, placed on wood pallets, and stored at an on-site location
designated by the SWDD . Any transport and disposal of wastes from the site will be
arranged by the SWDD . If so requested, GeoSyntec can provide assistance with IDW
disposal (meeting IRC staff, coordinating drum removal , etc . ) ; however, no budget is
included for IDW disposal assistance .
In addition, under Subtask 2 . 2 , budget has been included to repair hurricane damage to
the pump and treat system, including purchase and installation of: (i) totalizers or recovery
wells RW- 1 and RW-2 ; and (ii) a blower intake housing unit .
Task 2. 3 Well Redevelopment
A review of data associated with monitoring wells installed and sampled a part of the
Targeted Brownfield Assessment (TBA) grant revealed that a number of wel s exhibited
turbidities of greater than 1 , 000 nephelometric turbidity units (NTUs) . Elevat d turbidity
readings may result in elevated detections of groundwater analytes . As reques led by IRC ,
this proposal includes labor and equipment for GeoSyntec to redevelop th following
existing monitoring wells in an effort to remove fine-grained particles from the well casing
and reduce the turbidity to acceptable levels (generally less than 20 NTUs) : G -MW24A,
GR-MW24B , GR-MW26B , GR-MW27A, and GR-MW27B . The wells will be
redeveloped by overpumping and surging.
