Himanshu Mehta P . E .
23 March 2009
Page 5
Task 2. 5 : Wetland Transect Establishment
Geosyntec ' s wetlands biologist will review the transects ' monitoring sites and establish four
transects with permanent monuments for conducting annual monitoring events . Transect
locations will be established in accordance with Task 2 . 2 , following SJRWMD approval . The
transects will be located at piezometers locations 2 , 4 , 5 , and 7 . Each transect will total 150 feet
in length , and will be oriented perpendicular to the adjacent wetland line so that 100 feet of the
transect is placed within the wetland and 50 feet will be located in uplands . Geosyntec will
attempt to position all transects adjacent to the monitoring well locations . As discussed in
Condition 21 , certain transects may encounter placed fill within uplands . In this case , the upland
transect segment will terminate at the toe - of-- slope of fill . Three permanent monuments will be
established for each transect . Permanent monuments will include 18 - inch re- bar driven into the
soil to a depth of 12 inches , overlaid with a 48 - to 60- inch section of PVC pipe . The PVC pipe
will be labeled as upland terminus , wetland/upland interface , and wetland terminus . Each
monument will also be marked with fluorescent flagging to aid in locating the transects for future
monitoring events . A permanent photograph station will be established adjacent to each
monitoring well . Digital photographs will be taken at each cardinal direction (north , east, south ,
and west) to supplement the baseline monitoring data and provide a qualitative reference for
future monitoring events .
Phase 3 : Monitoring and Reporting
This phase will cover the 2 years of dewatering at the borrow area and includes the following
tasks :
Task 3 . l : Data Gathering
Condition 22 of the Permit requires weekly recording of rainfall and water levels , both on the
same day . Condition 13 of the Permit requires recording water flow data for each of the
dewatering pumps . The permit accepts water flow data derived from the pumps ratings and
times of operation .
Geosyntec will coordinate with SWDD ' s staff to obtain weekly records of rainfall , water levels ,
and time of operation . Rainfall records will be obtained from a rain gage approved by
SJRWMD ; water levels will be recorded at each of the 8 piezometers and 3 staff gages and time
of operation records will be obtained from a log book maintained by staff. Geosyntec will be
responsible for obtaining the records when SWDD ' staff is unavailable . Our budget provides for
10 days of weekly records gathering by Geosyntec over the two years of the project .
NCP2009/X L09084/J 1 .90075 -doe
