Restrained joints shall be used on lines larger than 6" diameter. Sections of piping <br />i' having restrained joints or those requiring restrained joints shall be constructed using <br />pipe and fittings with restrained "Locked -type" joints and the joints shall be capable of <br />holding against withdrawal for line pressures up to 150 pounds per square inch (psi). <br />The pipe fittings shall be as shown for restrained push -on joints or restrained mechanical <br />joints on Page 416 in Section VI, in the Handbook of Cast Iron Pipe, O' Edition. <br />2. Restrained pipe <br />shall have a minimum wall thickness <br />at <br />the <br />point <br />of cutout that <br />corresponds with <br />the minimum speed wall thickness for <br />the <br />rest <br />of the <br />pipe. <br />,r 3. Bolts and nuts for restrained joints shall be hot dipped galvanized, low alloy, high <br />strength steel. <br />• 4. The Contractor shall also provide restrained joints in accordance with the above criteria <br />wherever thrust blocks are used in conjunction with below ground fittings on lines 12" in <br />diameter or less. <br />r E. Earthwork and Backfill <br />1. All excavation shall be adequately guarded with barricades and lights, so as to protect <br />WO the public from hazard. Streets, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, parkways, and other public <br />property disturbed in the course of the work shall be restored in a manner satisfactory to <br />the County. <br />• <br />2. Foundation material used for pipe bedding, from a minimum 6" distance below the pipe <br />invert to the bottom 12" above the top of the pipe, shall be bank run sand and gravel. <br />3. All gravity sewer installation procedures must be in accordance with pipe manufacturer's <br />recommendations. All gravity sewers and force mains shall be installed to have a <br />minimum cover of 36 inches. Installation of gravity sewers shall be controlled by use of <br />a laser to maintain proper grade. <br />4. Installation of force mains shall be in accordance with AWWA Standard C600 and the <br />installation specifications for water lines in the water distribution section, irrespective of <br />the type of pipe selected. <br />4.1 <br />Trench — Trench <br />width shall be kept to a <br />minimum <br />necessary for installation of <br />the <br />pipe. The trench <br />bottom shall be graded <br />uniformly <br />to match the slope of pipe. <br />W <br />W <br />
