Comprehensive Plan Transportation Element <br /> POLICY 8 . 1 : The county will coordinate with the Indian River County MPO in its <br /> transportation planning activities. This coordination will involve serving as staff to the <br /> MPO and having staff and commissioners serve on MPO committees. <br /> POLICY 8 . 2 : The county will coordinate with FDOT to review its standards for <br /> sidewalk placement, access control, median cuts, signage, drainage, and other related <br /> physical roadway development activities . The county's Planning and Public Works <br /> Departments will schedule regular meetings with appropriate FDOT officials to review <br /> and discuss these issues and develop written standards agreeable to both entities . <br /> POLICY 8 . 3 : The county will participate on the MPO Technical Advisory Committee to <br /> promote intergovernmental coordination with the municipalities in the county. <br /> POLICY 8 .4 : The county, through the MPO, will establish a mechanism to share <br /> information with the municipalities in the county and with adjacent counties regarding <br /> proposed projects and their potential traffic system impacts on other jurisdictions . <br /> POLICY 8 . 5 : The county, through the MPO, will continue to coordinate its plans with <br /> the plans and programs of all transportation facility providers, especially FDOT. <br /> transportation plans . <br /> POLICY 8 .6 : The county acknowledges that it is in compliance and will continue to <br /> comply with the level of service standards for roadways as identified in the 1983 <br /> "Hutchinson Island Resource Planning & Management Plan", Policy C . 1 , page 33 . This <br /> policy states that roadways on the barrier island and connecting roadways that link the <br /> island to the mainland will maintain a minimum level of service of " C " on an average <br /> annual basis and level of service "D " for peak season traffic. <br /> OBJECTIVE 9 ADEQUATE TRANSIT SERVICES <br /> Between 2001 /02 and 2006/07, the number of one-way, fixed route passenger trips will increase <br /> by an average of ten percent annually, from 167,782 to more than 270,000. <br /> POLICY 9 . 1 : The county hereby adopts the following mass transit level of service <br /> standard : One-hour headways shall be maintained on all fixed transit routes . <br /> POLICY 9 .2 : The county will continue to maintain its fixed route transit system. <br /> POLICY 9 .3 : The county hereby adopts the MPO' s Long Range Transit Plan. <br /> POLICY 9 .4 : The county will continue to financially support and provide technical <br /> assistance to the county ' s community transportation coordinator (CTC), currently the <br /> Indian River County Council On Aging, for transportation disadvantaged service . <br /> POLICY 9 . 5 : The county will continue to apply for state and federal mass transit grant <br /> funds and use those funds to provide transit service in the county. <br /> Community Development Department Indian River County 138 <br />
