Work , which shall be paid for under the provisions of Article 11 of the General <br /> Conditions . <br /> B . Surface Structures : <br /> 1 . Surface structures are defined as structures or facilities above the ground <br /> surface . Included with such structures are their foundations and any <br /> . extension below the surface . Surface structures include , but are not limited <br /> to , buildings , tanks , walls , bridges , roads , dams , channels , open drainage , <br /> piping , poles , wires , posts , signs , markers , curbs , walks and all other facilities <br /> that are visible above the ground surface . <br /> C . Protection of Underground and Surface Structures : <br /> 1 . Sustain in their places and protect from direct or indirect injury , all <br /> underground and surface structures located within or adjacent to the limits of <br /> the Work . Such sustaining and supporting shall be done carefully , and as <br /> required by the party owning or controlling such structure . Before proceeding <br /> with the work of sustaining and supporting such structure , satisfy the <br /> ENGINEER that the methods and procedures to be used have been approved <br /> by the party owning same . <br /> 2 . Assume all risks attending the presence or proximity of all underground and <br /> surface structures within or adjacent to the limits of the Work . <br /> CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for all damage and expense for direct or <br /> indirect injury caused by its Work to any structure . CONTRACTOR shall <br /> repair immediately all damage caused by his work , to the satisfaction of the <br /> OWNER of the damaged structure . <br /> D . All other existing surface facilities , including but not limited to , guard rails , posts , <br /> guard cables , signs , poles , markers , and curbs which are temporarily removed to <br /> facilitate installation of the Work shall be replaced and restored to their original <br /> condition at CONTRACTOR ' S expense . <br /> 1 . 6 DAMAGE TO EXISTING STRUCTURES AND UTILITIES <br /> A . The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for and make good all damage to <br /> pavement beyond the limits of this Contract , buildings , telephone or other cables , <br /> water pipes , sanitary pipes , or other structures which may e encountered , whether <br /> or not shown on the Drawings . <br /> B . Information shown on the Drawings as to the location of existing utilities has been <br /> prepared from the most reliable data available to the Engineer . This information is <br /> not guaranteed , however , and it shall be this CONTRACTOR ' s responsibility to <br /> determine the location , character and depth of any existing utilities . He shall assist <br /> the utility companies , by every means possible to determine said locations . <br /> Extreme caution shall be exercised to eliminate any possibility of any damage to <br /> utilities resulting from his activities . <br /> 1 . 7 ADJUSTMENTS OF UTILITY CASTINGS , COVERS AND BOXES <br /> A .
