Ms. Polly Kratman GeoSyntec Consultants
Indian River County
10 May 2006
Page 2
Class I disposal and 22 acres used for C&D disposal . Waste materials accepted for the
Class I landfill disposal include residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial wastes.
The landfill serves the unincorporated Indian River County and municipalities of Vero
Beach, Orchid, Fellsmere, Sebastian, Indian River Shores, and Wabasso, Florida.
The SWDD intends to permit and construct new Class I landfill and C &D disposal
facility expansions within the 276-acre permitted facility. The new Class I landfill and
C&D disposal facility expansions will be located east of the existing Class I landfill and
stormwater management system, and west of the existing C&D disposal facility. It is
understood that the exact footprint of the new Class I landfill is being evaluated by one of
SWDD ' s other consultants (Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc . (CDM)); however, the landfill
would cover an area of approximately 50 acres . It is also understood that the Class I
landfill will be located on the southern part of the proposed expansion area, with the
landfill being bordered by the existing stormwater pond to the west, C-6 Canal to the
south, existing C&D disposal facility to the east, and the new C&D disposal facility to the
north. Figure 1 shows the layout of the proposed Class I landfill expansion.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The proposed scope of work includes activities to be performed on behalf of SWDD
for the design and permitting services for the new Class I landfill expansion. GeoSyntec will provide the engineering services necessary to complete the permit
application and address any comments or requests for additional information from FDEP
for issuance of the permit for the landfill expansion.
