determine if the property has been repaired to its previous condition, before the <br /> CONTRACTOR receives approval of repairs. <br /> 31 . 12Eauioment Storage. From March 1 through May 1 , staging areas for construction <br /> equipment shall be off the beach. Nighttime storage of construction equipment shall <br /> be off the beach, in accordance with FDEP permit requirements for sea turtle <br /> protection . <br /> 31 . 13 Damages. In the event that damage is caused by the CONTRACTOR, the <br /> CONTRACTOR shall restore all sidewalks, roads, access ramps, dune vegetation or <br /> any other structure or natural feature to pre-construction conditions or better at the <br /> CONTRACTOR ' S own expense. The CONTRACTOR shall not receive final <br /> payment until all damage is restored to the satisfaction of the COUNTY. All <br /> existing vegetation, seawalls, stairs, lifeguard towers and chairs, overwalks and <br /> similar beach access structures shall be protected from direct hydraulic discharge and <br /> impact by construction equipment. Backfilling around such structures shall be <br /> performed by appropriate construction equipment or by hand. <br /> 31 . 14 Dune Construction. CONTRACTOR shall provide beach fill from the Borrow Area <br /> between the elevations and locations specified in the Plans. All existing vegetation <br /> within the lines and grades as specified in the Construction Plans shall be buried <br /> except those plants and dune areas marked for protection by the COUNTY. All fill <br /> and grading shall be paid for at the unit price for the Dredge and Fill bid item . <br /> 31 . 15 Dune Grading and Dressing. The dune portion of the project area shall be constructed <br /> according to Section 30 of these Technical Specifications. Where existing elevations <br /> permit, the crest of the constructed dune feature shall be graded longitudinally to <br /> taper into the grade of the adjacent natural beach and minimize any potential safety <br /> hazard. Where existing grade is lower than the proposed dune crest elevation of+ 14 <br /> ft. NGVD in Sectors 1 & 2 and + 12 ft. NGVD in Sector 7, the CONTRACTOR shall <br /> field-stake, subject to COUNTY or ENGINEER approval, the upland limits of the <br /> proposed dune construction. Grading shall be performed under the supervision of the <br /> COUNTY. The CONTRACTOR shall notify the COUNTY at least 24 hours prior to <br /> commencement of grading. <br /> 31 . 16EscaMment Leveling. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for grading <br /> escarpments that form along accepted sections of beach, repetitively if necessary, <br /> until all construction is complete. Any escarpment that exceeds 18 inches in height <br /> along at least 100 feet of shoreline shall be graded to a minimum of a 1 : 10 (V:H) <br /> slope at the direction of the COUNTY. Payment for escarpment leveling shall be <br /> included in the unit price for the Dredge and Fill bid item. Prior to final acceptance, <br /> the CONTRACTOR will inspect the beach for the formation of sand escarpments. <br /> Any escarpments exceeding 18 inches in height (on average) and 100 feet in length <br /> will be leveled or smoothed to eliminate the escarpment. The ENGINEER will be <br /> notified prior to the leveling of any escarpments to ensure that the ENGINEER agrees <br /> TECHNICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS Rev October 5. 2007 TS-31 <br />
