Commissioner McCullers and unanimously carried that the Administrator <br />be authorized to place and cover 160 feet of pipe in the center of <br />the County's easement adjoining the Brackett property, the pipe being <br />of no cost to the County. <br />Mrs. Peggy Kuster and Mrs. Gladys McGarry appeared before the <br />Board reporting on the activities of the Vero Beach Humane Society. <br />Mrs. McGarry reported on the history of the Vero Beach Society and <br />=commented that the fine work of the organization was known throughout <br />Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Brevard Counties. She stated <br />a <br />that the number of dogs in' the shelter ha's doubled since last year <br />and that therewas a very large number of cats now coming into'the <br />shelter. They reported on incidents of picking up loose dogs and <br />felt that they had made a great deal of progress in the animal <br />problems in the few short months since the adoption of the Dog <br />Resolution. <br />A letter was received from J. B. Norton, Vero Beach Chamber of <br />Commerce, regarding the desirability and necessity of an access road <br />from Oslo Road to I 95. Mr. Norton was informed that the County has <br />been advised that the traffic does not justify an.interchange at <br />this time. He was told that when the center line is located the <br />County might consider the possibility of acquiring enough land at <br />this point to make the access road possible at some time in the future. <br />The Administrator reported that the Road and Bridge Department <br />ham started resurfacing County roads and that the culvert on 43rd <br />Street was now working as it should. <br />Notice of the Florida Public Service Commission that the Southern <br />Bell Telephone Company is requesting to increase its rates and <br />date of Public Hearing was read and ordered filed in the office of <br />the Clerk. <br />On a Motion made by Commissioner Graves, seconded by Commissioner <br />McCullers the Clerk is authorized to hire the necessary help, not <br />to exceed $750.00, for the purpose of compiling the County's assets <br />by September 30, into a balance sheet as required by the State <br />PIO 1.1 'd;}318 <br />AUG 7 <br />Legislative Auditor. <br />
