ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER • <br />MASSEY, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY AUTHORIZED THE COUNTY ATTORNEY TO CONTACT <br />JOSEPH LANDERS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WITH THE INTERNAL IMPROVEMENT BOARD <br />IN TALLAHASSEE REGARDING THE ACQUISITION OF SPOIL ISLANDS IN THEIR CONTROL. <br />DONALD ADAMS, BUILDING DIRECTOR INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THERE IS <br />A STRUCTURE ON PROPERTY OWNED BY.THE FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILROAD THAT - <br />IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE TORN DOWN. THIS STRUCTURE IS NOT OWNED BY THE <br />RAILROAD AND THEY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TEARING IT DOWN. MR. ADAMS <br />HAS TRIED TO FIND OWNERSHIP OF THIS BUILDING, BUT HAS NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL <br />AND HE IS REQUESTING THE COUNTY TO REMOVE IT. <br />THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR STATED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE A MAJOR <br />PROBLEM TO DEMOLISH AND REMOVE THIS BUILDING. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />MASSEY, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY AUTHORIZED MR. DONALD ADAMS, BUILDING DIRECTOI <br />TO INVESTIGATE THE LEGAL PROCEDURE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THIS BUILDING. <br />THE BOARD RECESSED AT 12:15 O'CLOCK P.M. AND RECONVENED AT <br />1:30 O'CLOCK P.M. <br />DR. C.C. FLOOD, DIRECTOR, COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, APPEARED <br />AND EXPLAINED TO THE BOARD THE PROCEDURE USED FOR PAYMENT OF INDIGENT <br />PATIENTS NEEDING HOSPITALIZATION. HE STATED THAT THESE PATIENTS ARE <br />CLEARED BY GLADYS VIGLIANO, COUNTY WELFARE DIRECTOR AS TO NEED. THE <br />COUNTY PAYS A PER DIEM RATE TO SEBASTIAN RIVER MEDICAL CENTER OF <br />$92.44 PER DAY. THE COUNTY AUTHORIZED PAYMENT OF UP TO 12 DAYS <br />HOSPITALIZATION; ANYTHING BEYOND 12 DAYS SHOULD HAVE A REASON FOR THE <br />EXTENSION AND COUNTY COMMISSION APPROVAL.BEFORE PAYMENT IS MADE. <br />DR. FLOOD CONTINUED THAT THERE IS A COUNTY PATIENT AT CHANDS <br />TEACHING HOSPITAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA AND THIS HOSPITAL IS REQUEST. <br />ING FULL PAYMENT INCLUDING AN EXTENSION OF TIME. THIS PATIENT HAD <br />A DESTROYED LEFT LUNG, WHICH NEEDED SURGERY AND CARE THAT THIS HOSPITAL <br />WAS ABLE TO GIVE HIM BUT IT TOOK 51 DAYS OF HOSPITALIZATION. <br />THE LEGISLATURE PASSED A BILL ON JUNE, 1974 AUTHORIZING CHANDS <br />TEACHING HOSPITAL TO AUTOMATICALLY BILL THE COUNTY FOR THE FULL AMOUNT <br />OF TIME ON ANY PATIENT SENT THERE WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER MASSEY, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />WODTKE, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED PAYMENT OF $7,153.00 TO CHANDS <br />TEACHING HOSPITAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA, GAINESVILLE, FOR 51 DAYS <br />- 13 - <br />MAY 7 1975 <br />BOOK <br />Pacr354 <br />
