By the River, Inc. <br />November 2006 <br />Tenant Services: <br />• <br />Tenant Services provided on site by the Applicant, By the River, Inc., at no additional cost to <br />the residents: <br />• Emergency call system connected to 24-hour monitored emergency service desk. <br />• Exercise class twice a week: Yoga and Fitness classes <br />• Education Programs: By the River will provide educational programs for the residents <br />as well as others in the local community. These programs may include: <br />1. Financial Counseling <br />2. Bereavement Counseling <br />3. Song and Dance Classes <br />• Day Service Program: The proposed day service program leverages the facility and <br />staff and provides day services that include organized activities including arts and <br />crafts, exercise, relaxation techniques and some life coaching applications. <br />• Scheduled events such as birthday parties, music, potlucks, card games, bingo, etc. <br />• . Free blood pressure screening twice a month. <br />• By the River is in the process of developing a program called Compassion Works©: it <br />will be a service -driven, community-based project that encourages its residents to <br />participate in service projects of their own. Compassion Works° is a custom - <br />developed program to empower the elderly by providing opportunities to serve others. <br />Providing simple service projects goes a long way to improving the self-worth and <br />dignity of seniors. <br />This innovative program is designed to keep the residents Moving and speak directly <br />to the commitment to enhance the dignity of seniors. Having a way for residents to get <br />involved and help others is a great way to ensure they feel good about themselves. By <br />providing effective compassionate service outlets this organization will be able to <br />improve the, quality of life for all involved. Studies have shown that seniors who bring <br />their life experience and talents to bear on compassionate service projects live happier, <br />healthier and longer lives. <br />This project will also emphasize inter -generational. programs that bring the youth of <br />the community together with the elders to exchange the vitality of the youth with the <br />wisdom of the elders. <br />On site Tenant Services will be provided by an outside provider at no additional cost <br />to the tenant: <br />• Transportation stops weekdays provided by the Indian River County Council on <br />Aging and rides by appointment to doctors. <br />• By the River will be partnering with the national organization, The Boys and Girls <br />Club of America. The intention is to provide a mechanism to implement inter- <br />generational programs. Boys and Girls Club programs and services promote and <br />enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, <br />usefulness, belonging and influence. Working with the Boys and Girls Club of <br />America will bring young people together with the residents to help bridge the <br />generational gap. <br />4 <br />
