a
ATTORNEY COLLINS NOTED THAT THE BOARD IS ACTUALLY HOLDING TWO
BUDGET HEARINGS - ONE ON THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' BUDGET FOR
1977-78 AND ONE ON THE FEDERAL REVENUE SHARING BUDGET, WHICH IS INCORPOR-
ATED IN THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' BUDGET.
CHAIRMAN WODTKE ASKED FINANCE DIRECTORJACKSON TO MAKE SOME
GENERAL STATEMENTS AS TO THE THREE DIFFERENT FUNDS THE COUNTY WORKS UNDER
AND THE FIGURES WE ARE LOOKING AT THIS YEAR IN COMPARISON TO LAST YEAR,
FINANCE OFFICER .JACKSON INFORMED THOSE PRESENT THAT THE BOARD
WORKS UNDER THREE FUNDS - THE GENERAL FUND, ROAD & BRIDGE FUND AND THE
FINE AND FORFEITURE FUND. HE STATED THAT THE BOARD HAS ANTICIPATED A
39% INCREASE IN THE LEVY FOR THE GENERAL FUND, THE REASON BEING THE REDUC-
TION OR DEPLETION OF THE RESERVES WHICH WE HAD HOPED WOULD CARRY US THROUGH
THIS FISCAL YEAR. THESE RESERVES HAVE DIMINISHED BY NEARLY ONE MILLION
DOLLARS, AND IT IS NECESSARY TO RECOVER SOME OF THIS THROUGH TAXES. MR.
.JACKSON CONTINUED THAT THE OTHER TWO FUNDS REFLECT AN INCREASE IN THE TAX
LEVY OF ONLY 5%, AND HE ANTICIPATES A MILLAGE OF 4.9633, WHICH REPRESENTS
AN OVERALL INCREASE OF 157, THE BULK OF WHICH WILL OCCUR IN THE GENERAL
FUND.
THE CHAIRMAN ASKED IF ANYONE PRESENT WISHED TO BE HEARD,
A GENTLEMAN FROM THE AUDIENCE ASKED TO SEE A COPY OF THE BUDGET,
AND CHAIRMAN WODTKE GAVE HIM HIS COPY TO REVIEW.
COMMISSIONER Loy STATED THAT THIS .BOARD HAS WORKED DILIGENTLY
TO PROVIDE THE BEST BUDGET POSSIBLE, AND SHE FEELS THAT IT PRETTY WELL
INDICATES THE EVER GROWING NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY. SHE NOTED THAT THERE
ARE SOME ANTICIPATED EXPENSES THIS YEAR THAT HOPEFULLY WILL NOT BE RE-
OCCURRING, SUCH AS IN CONNECTION WITH THE NEW LANDFILL. COMMISSIONER Loy
WAS PLEASED TO NOTE THAT THE BOARD IS NOW ABLE TO INAUGURATE A PROGRAM OF
ENFORCEMENT OF THE ANIMAL.CONTROL REGULATIONS, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT
HAS BEEN NEEDED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. SHE CONTINUED THAT IT BECAME OB-
VIOUS THROUGH THE BUDGET SESSIONS THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY ARE
ASKING FOR MORE AND MORE MUNICIPAL SERVICES.
COMMISSIONER LOY REQUESTED THAT FINANCE OFFICER .JACKSON BRIEFLY
OUTLINE THE POSITION OF THE BOARD IN REGARD TO THE ANTICIPATED EXPENDITURES
FOR THE COMING YEAR AS SET OUT IN THE BUDGET FOR THE FEDERAL REVENUE SHAR-•
ING FUNDS.
4
a 31 Pn,E
