REMSEN ASKED WHETHER A BOND ISSUE WILL BE FLOATED TO PAY FOR.
THE FACILITIES, AND THE,CHAIRMAN STATED THAT THE BOARD DOES NOT KNOW
AT THIS TIME WHAT METHOD WILL BE USED TO FUND THIS.
RITA NELSON OF 2746 6TH PLACE STATED THAT SHE IS NOT IN FAVOR
OF THIS TAXING DISTRICT FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT IT DID NOT GO TO
REFERENDUM AND SHE DID NOT VOTE FOR IT. THE BOARD JUST SUDDENLY -PASSED
AN ORDINANCE. SECONDLY, SHE STATED THAT JUST BECAUSE THE COUNTY
COMMISSION IS GOING INTO THE UTILITIES.BUSINESS, SHE DOES NOT WANT TO
HAVE TO PAY FOR THE STUDY.
.JOSEPH STEINITZ INFORMED THE HOARD THAT HE FELT IT IS UNFAIR
TO TAX FARMERS OR GROVE OWNERS WHO WILL NOT DERIVE ANY BENEFIT FROM A
MUNICIPAL WATER SYSTEM.
COMMISSIONER SIEBERT NOTED THAT THIS AREA HAS THE HIGHEST
GROWTH POTENTIAL OF ANY PART OF THE COUNTY, AND IF SOMEONE WERE TO GO
OUT AND PURCHASE LAND THERE NOW TO BECOME BONA FIDE FARMERS, THEY
WOULD ALSO HAVE TO LOOK AT THE POTENTIAL OF THE LAND VALUE. THE
AVAILABILITY OF GOOD WATER INCREASES THE LAND VALUE TREMENDOUSLY, AND
SEVERAL GROVES THERE HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO SUBDIVISIONS FOR THIS REASON.
MR, STEINITZ ARGUED THAT .JOHN'S ISLAND MADE A SURVEY OF THEIR
OWN IN REGARD TO AGRICULTURAL LAND BEING ASSESSED FOR WATER, AND HE
FELT THEY WERE UNANIMOUS THAT FARMERS SHOULD NOT BE TAXED.
COMMISSIONER Loy STATED THAT THERE WAS A PRIVATE STUDY MADE
BY PRIVATE CITIZENS, AND COMMISSIONER SIEBERT POINTED OUT THAT THE
AREA NORTH OF .JOHN'S ISLAND IS A BONA FIDE AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT AND
o WILL REMAIN IN AGRICULTURE. HE DID NOT BELIEVE THE PROPERTY PRESENTLY
BEING DISCUSSED WILL REMAIN IN AGRICULTURE..
CHAIRMAN 'HODTKE NOTED THAT WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY GROVE OWNERS
OBJECTING, AND THE AGRICULTURAL LAND THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THIS TAXING
7
