WILL BE EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE TO FIND THE SOLUTION. THE CHAIRMAN
CONTINUED THAT WE HAVE FRANCHISES THAT THE OWNERS MAY WALK AWAY FROM
AND LEAVE THE COUNTY TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES, AND WE HAVE TO BE
ABLE TO DO IT ON AN ECONOMICAL BASIS. HE NOTED THAT THE PROPOSED
MILLAGE ON A $40,000 TAXABLE HOME WOULD AMOUNT TO $30.00 THIS YEAR.
MRS. LYNCH FELT THE BOUNDARY LINES ARE NOT FAIR BECAUSE THERE
ARE MANY OTHER POPULATED AREAS AND ALSO FELT THE WAY IT WAS ADVERTISED
WAS (.QUITE DECEPTIVE.
GERARD BRENNER, EX—CANDIDATE FOR THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, STATED THAT THE BIG PROBLEM IS THAT THE PEOPLE DON'T
WANT TO PAY THE TAX, AND HE CAN SEE WHY. HE STATED THAT THE BOARD
HAS A FIGURE OF $4,000 IN THE BUDGET FOR A STUDY FOR THE HOSPITAL,
AND IN ANOTHER PLACE HAS A DIFFERENT FIGURE FOR RENOVATING THE HOSPITAL
OF $466,000. HE DID NOT SEE WHY THE BOARD SHOULD SPEND MONEY FOR
RENOVATING THE HOSPITAL WHICH BENEFITS NOBODY BUT THE GOVERNMENTAL
PEOPLE AND MAKE THESE PEOPLE PAY A TAX. HE THEREFORE, SUGGESTED THE
BOARD REARRANGE THE BUDGET AND PAY FOR THE WATER STUDY.
ATTORNEY COLLINS POINTED OUT THAT THE HOSPITAL IS GOING
TO BE TURNED INTO COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES, WHICH WILL BENEFIT
THE COUNTY AS A WHOLE. HE FURTHER NOTED THE STUDY WE ARE TALKING
ABOUT TONIGHT WILL APPLY ONLY WITHIN THIS PARTICULAR DISTRICT, AND
IT WOULD BE UNFAIR)AND PROBABLY DUAL TAXATION, IF OTHER TAXES WERE
USED FOR THE BENEFIT OF THIS SPECIFIC AREA INSTEAD OF ON A UNIFORM
BASIS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.
MR..BRENNER FELT THERE IS FEDERAL MONEY THAT COULD BE USED
TO PAY FOR THE WATER STUDY INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT ON THE TAXPAYERS,
MR. BRENNER.CONTINUED THAT IF THIS TAX IS ASSESSED, ARE WE GOING TO
PAY FOR THE RICH THAT ARE GOING TO COME IN AND OPEN UP THESE STORES
AND COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS IN THE MALLS. HE FELT THE TAX IS UNFAIR
BECAUSE IT IS LOOKING TO THE RICH PEOPLE THAT ARE COMING IN.
o MR. STEINITZ INQUIRED IF ANY CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN
TO LEVYING THE TAX AGAINST THE FINAL USERS. HE ALSO FELT THAT OFTEN
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS MONEY FOR SUCH STUDIES AS THIS.
0
SEP 2 8 1978
36 pAr 3
