OF THE DEVELOPMENT SO THERE ARE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INTO THE <br />OTHER CRITERIA ON THE SITE, DRAINAGE, ETC. <br />POLLY SCHWEY SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THE REQUESTED REZONING TO R -2C <br />ON THE BASIS OF THE MEDIUM DENSITY DESIGNATED IN THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br />FOR THIS AREA AND THE GREAT COMMUNITY NEED FOR MIDDLE INCOME MULTI- <br />FAMILY UNITS. SHE POINTED OUT THAT THE LOWER THE DENSITY, THE HIGHER <br />THE UNITS WILL BE PRICED. <br />DR. KALE POINTED OUT THAT YOU CAN BUILD THESE SAME TYPE UNITS <br />FOR A LOWER PRICE IF YOU PUT THEM ON HIGHER LAND RATHER THAN IN THESE <br />COASTAL HAMMOCKS, AND HE DID NOT FEEL MRS. SCHWEY HAD A VALID ARGUMENT. <br />THE LAND. <br />ARCHITECT RIGLER NOTED THEY CHOSE THE SITE BECAUSE THEY OWN <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />DEESON, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY CLOSED THE PUBLIC HEARING. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT STATED THAT HE FEELS IT IS PREMATURE TO <br />HAVE THIS HIGH A DENSITY IN THE AREA IN QUESTION WITHOUT PUBLIC SERVICES <br />SUCH AS WATER AND SEWER AND HE INTENDS TO VOTE AGAINST THE REZONING. <br />COMMISSIONER LYONS STATED THAT HE WILL TAKE THE SAME STAND. <br />HE NOTED THAT HE TOOK A TOUR AROUND THE COUNTY, AND THERE IS A TREMENDOUS <br />AMOUNT OF HIGH, DRY LAND THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND WHICH <br />WOULD CREATE NO PARTICULAR PROBLEM FOR THE COUNTY NOW -OR AT A LATER <br />DATE. HE ALSO FELT THE HIGH DENSITY REQUESTED IS PREMATURE BECAUSE <br />UTILITIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE PRESENT TIME. <br />COMMISSIONER DEESON CONCURRED THAT HE WOULD TAKE THE SAME <br />POSITION BECAUSE UTILITIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE PRESENT TIME. <br />COMMISSIONER Loy STATED THAT SHE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS <br />REQUEST AND FELT THAT REZONING TO A HIGHER DENSITY IS NOT THE ANSWER. <br />SHE STATED THAT SHE WOULD NOT SUPPORT THE RECOMMENDATION. <br />THE CHAIRMAN FELT VERY STRONGLY THAT WITH THE COMMERCIAL THAT <br />IS ALREADY THERE, THIS AREA EVENTUALLY WILL BE UTILIZED IN MULTIPLE <br />FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PER THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, BUT STATED HE WOULD BE <br />MORE RECEPTIVE TO R -2B THAN R -2C. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT COMMENTED THAT HE IS NOT SAYING HE IS <br />PERPETUALLY IN FAVOR OF KEEPING THIS PROPERTY IN R-lA; HE JUST FEELS <br />AUG 81979 61 Boa 4f FAGUE 304 <br />
