ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ELEMENT — CHAPTER 5 <br />(Clerk's Note: This item was heard commencing at 9:09 a.m., following Public Schools <br />Facilities Element — Chapter 5, and is placed here for continuity). <br />Director Keating presented Objective 4, pertaining to the establishment of two additional <br />industrial/business parks: <br />OBJECTIVE 4 Facilitate Economic Development <br />By 2015, the County and municipalities within the County shall have at least two <br />additional established industrial/business/technology/research parks (for a total of 4 <br />parks) with sufficient land and adequate infrastructure to accommodate new or <br />expanding businesses. At least one of these parks should be developed for <br />Biotech/research/technology industries. <br />Director Keating confirmed for Commissioner Wheeler that expanding one of the <br />existing industrial parks, rather than creating two new parks, would be consistent with the <br />obj ective. <br />Director Keating outlined the following policies established in conjunction with <br />Objective 5, relating to the County working with the municipalities to undertake economic <br />development funding and activities. <br />OBJECTIVE 5 Intergovernmental Coordination <br />By 2011, there will be an adopted Interlocal agreement between the County and the <br />municipalities that provides for coordinated economic development funding and <br />economic development activities. <br />POLICY 5.1: The County shall involve all necessary stakeholders needed to approve or <br />assist any economic development project wishing to expand or re -locate within the <br />County so the approval process happens expeditiously. <br />POLICY 5.2: The County, through the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and <br />its Economic Development Division, shall request that all local governments within the <br />20 <br />April 19, 2010 <br />
