COMMISSIONER FLETCHER FELT THAT THE PROPOSED SITE IS LOCATED <br />IN AN ALREADY EXCESSIVELY DENSE AREA OF POPULATION, AND ASKED IF HE <br />UNDERSTOOD CORRECTLY THAT THE PROJECT WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED WITH <br />SEPTIC TANK AND WELLS BUT MUST BE ON A SEWER AND WATER SYSTEM. <br />COMMISSIONER WODTKE CONFIRMED THAT THERE MUST BE A CENTRAL <br />SYSTEM OF SOME TYPE. <br />CHAIRMAN LYONS STATED HE PERSONALLY COULD NOT THINK OF A <br />BETTER AREA TO PUT THIS PROJECT, AND HE HOPED THE COMMISSION WOULD <br />VOTE FOR THE PROPOSED LOCATION, WHICH WOULD MAKE BETTER HOUSING <br />AVAILABLE IN THE GIFFORD AREA. <br />JUDY PRUITT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AND COMMUNITY <br />AFFAIRS STATED THAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS PROJECT MOVE FORWARD <br />NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE NEED, BUT BECAUSE -IN THIS TIME OF SHAKY <br />FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, MORE EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED <br />ON WHAT WILL BE DONE IN LOCAL AREAS IN PROVIDING HOUSING. <br />CHAIRMAN LYONS ASKED IF ANYONE PRESENT WISHED TO BE HEARD. <br />WALLACE CARTER OF 4521 30TH COURT WISHED TO KNOW THE EXACT <br />LOCATION OF THE PROPOSED SITE. <br />MR. REGAN DISPLAYED AN AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH AND POINTED OUT <br />THE LOCATION OF THE SITE IN RELATION TO THE GIFFORD PARK. HE NOTED <br />THAT PINEVIEW SUBDIVISION IS TO THE EAST OF THE SITEI- <br />GENEVIEVE BRADLEY SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THE PROJECT AND THE <br />SITE.- SHE STATED THAT IT IS NOT IN THE HEART OF GIFFORD, AND IF YOU <br />STAND ON THE ADJACENT CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION, YOU WILL SEE ALL <br />KINDS OF PEOPLE - BLACK, WHITE, MEXICAN, AND WHATEVER. <br />ANN FOSTER, LIFETIME RESIDENT OF GIFFORD, STATED THAT WHAT- <br />EVER IS DONE IN GIFFORD, WILL BE A STEP FORWARD. SHE INFORMED THE <br />BOARD THAT SHE AND ALL HER NEIGHBORS WHO LIVE IN THE VICINITY OF THE <br />PROPOSED PROJECT, ARE IN FAVOR OF SUCH A DEVELOPMENT. <br />r. <br />WILLIAM KOOLAGE, 26TH AVENUE, INFORMED THE BOARD THAT HE <br />SERVED ON THE ORIGINAL STUDY COMMITTEE WHICH STARTED THE COUNTY <br />COMMISSION ON THE PATH TO THIS PROJECT. MR, KOOLAGE COMMENTED THAT <br />DURING THE FORMATION OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, PUBLIC HEARINGS, ETC., <br />
