with drainage system improvements, new development in those areas will meet the current
stormwater management and water quality standards of the county and regulatory agencies. That
new development will also be required to meet the minimum finished floor elevations
established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Improvements required within individual drainage basins are identified in the Stormwater
Management Sub -Element. To ensure that new development meets existing drainage and
stormwater management requirements, the county planning and public works departments
coordinate all development proposals with the appropriate water control and water management
districts. Going forward, the county should continue to regulate development in flood prone
areas in a manner that is consistent with the National Flood Insurance Program.
Future Land Use Element 129
