HE CONTINUED THAT WITH <br />THE NEW $20,000 HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION, THERE WOULD BE NO MONEY COMING <br />IN FROM A LARGE MAJORITY OF THE HOMESITES, AND THE ENTIRE COST WILL <br />HAVE TO BE OBTAINED FROM COMMERCIAL PROPERTY OR THOSE WITH PROPERTY <br />THAT IS WORTH MORE. <br />CHAIRMAN LYONS REPORTED THAT HE DISCUSSED WITH THE PROGRES- <br />SIVE LEAGUE THE FACT THAT THE MAJOR COST OF THE DISTRICT WOULD BE <br />BORNE BY THOSE WHO HAD PROPERTY VALUED ABOVE THE EXEMPTION, AND HE <br />BELIEVED THERE IS A VERY STRONG FEELING THAT THEY WANT THE LIGHTS. <br />HE AGREED THAT THEY ARE NEEDED. <br />PROPERTY APPRAISER NOLTE INQUIRED WHETHER ANY THOUGHT HAD <br />BEEN GIVEN TO ASSESSING THIS ON AN ACREAGE OR PARCEL BASIS. HE <br />NOTED THAT THE EXEMPTIONS WOULD NOT APPLY WHEN THE ASSESSMENT IS <br />BASED ON A CERTAIN AMOUNT PER ACRE OR FRACTION THEREOF, AND MORE <br />PEOPLE WOULD BE AFFECTED, THREE DRAINAGE DISTRICTS ARE ASSESSED IN <br />THIS MANNER, ONE BEING ASSESSED AT $6.00 PER ACRE OR FRACTION THEREOF, <br />AND MR. NOLTE STATED IT WOULD NOT PRESENT A PROBLEM FOR HIS OFFICE. <br />HE EMPHASIZED THAT IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THAT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE AN <br />$18,000 HOUSE AND A $20,000 EXEMPTION MIGHT STILL RECEIVE A SMALL BILL. <br />MR.
