He proposed <br />that if the commercial area was divided to the north where it <br />originally was, it would eliminate some of the impaction and it would <br />lessen the traffic congestion. Mr. Wilkins stated that his client <br />closed on this property in February and it was deeded to him as a <br />commercial piece of property. He then referred to a letter from <br />Dewey Walker stating the property was C-lA, and the owner has spent <br />time and money in the advent of developing the hotel/motel complex. <br />Lengthy.discussion followed regarding the intersection. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Scurlock, seconded by <br />Commissioner Fletcher, that the Board accept the Planning Department's <br />recommendation to make the subject property LD -2. <br />Discussion followed about the intersection. <br />The Chairman called for the question. It was voted on and <br />carried with a vote of 3 to 2, with Commissioners Bird and Wodtke <br />voting in opposition. <br />Planning Director Rever next discussed the West Wabasso <br />area, where they are considering a mixed use designation. Primarily, <br />he explained, the use is residential, with commercial type of use <br />taking place next to it. This area lends itself more to redevelopment <br />and rehabilitation of the present buildings. Mr. Rever stated that <br />the Planning Staff recommendation is that it remain as it is at LD -2, <br />or 6 units per acre. <br />Ken Pangburn, Wabasso, approached the Board and felt some <br />attention should be given to the West Wabasso area, as was given to <br />the areas in Oslo and Gifford. <br />Discussion followed about redevelopment and rehabilitation <br />of old homes. <br />Planning Director Rever commented that this area should be <br />left as is; LD -2 to the north of Wabasso Road, and LD -1 to the <br />south. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Scurlock, seconded by <br />Commissioner Fletcher, that the Board accept the recommendation of <br />OCT 141991 9 600K 4 7 PAGE 748 <br />
