48:PA1, 13 <br />FEB 21982 <br />Lengthy discussion followed regarding service <br />warranties, the down-time for the trucks being repaired, <br />and the trucks the County presently owns. <br />On Motion by Commissioner Lyons, seconded by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously accepted Bid #111, <br />as recommended by the Bid Committee, of General GMC Truck <br />Sales for a 5-6 Yard Dump Truck as being the lowest and best <br />bid meeting specifications, in the amount of $22,000 including <br />trade-in, Account #102-214-541-66-43. <br />Administrator Nelson advised that this truck will be <br />used as a replacement by the Road & Bridge Department. <br />BID RECOMMENDATION #112 <br />Administrator Nelson pointed out that the bid from <br />Minton Equipment contained an $8,000 error, and recommended <br />that the County release them from their mistake. <br />On Motion by Commissioner Wodtke, seconded by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously accepted the <br />recommendation of the Bid Committee for releasing Minton <br />Equipment from their error, and to accept Bid #112 of Velde <br />Ford for a 12-14 Yard Dump Truck as being the best bid <br />meeting specifications, in the amount of $41,315, Account <br />#102-214-541-66-43. <br />REPORT ON 6 CYLINDER VS 8 CYLINDER TRUCKS <br />Mr. Goodrich, of Fred Coyne Chevrolet, approached <br />the Board and gave an informative, detailed report on 6 <br />cylinder vs 8 cylinder trucks. He stressed that it was <br />important to use the correct truck for the correct job in <br />the County. Mr. Goodrich explained gross vehicle weight, <br />which is the weight of the vehicle, plus the load; this was <br />a very important factor to consider when selecting the <br />proper truck. He discussed gas consumption, trucks to be <br />used for towing; and diesel engines. He suggested that when <br />vehicles go out for bid, standard as well as compact be <br />considered. <br />
