Commissioner Bird reported that it is planned to <br />ask for further donations of equipment for the Gifford Park. <br />(B) C-34 Airboat Launch <br />Commissioner Bird next reported that when Blue Cypress <br />Lake was closed for airboat launching, it was decided to <br />improve the ramp area at C-34 Canal for this purpose. <br />Through use of the County crew and some funds from the Board <br />Improvement Trust Fund, the shoulders on both sides of the <br />road have been improved to provide both a safe place to <br />f <br />launch and park. <br />(C) Round Island Park <br />Commissioner Bird noted that an agreement was worked <br />out with the University of Florida to have some Seniors <br />assist in developments plans for parks with the thought in <br />mind they would eventually make up a Master Plan for Parks & <br />Recreation Development in Indian River County. The first <br />year we got a commitment of one student, Kim Moyer, re <br />development of Round Island Park and agreed to expend <br />somewhere between $400 to $600 for expenses she might incur <br />in connection with this project. These funds were in the <br />Planning Budget. After a series of about four visits to the <br />County and a tremendous amount of research, Miss Moyer did a <br />very comprehensive study on the background of that area and <br />provided several conceptual plans which she drew up with <br />varying degrees of development, ranging from minimal to a <br />very complete development with camping area, picnic areas, <br />boating facilities, etc. The final expense was about $600 <br />mostly for printing and travel. Commissioner Bird expressed <br />great pleasure with the final'iesult of Miss Moyer's study <br />and believed these plans will put us ahead of the game when <br />funds do become available in the future for development of <br />this park. He stated that with the Commission's approval, <br />he planned to write the School of Landscape Architecture <br />- rr <br />
