Ph.D. <br />Acting County Administrator SUBJECT: Civil Defense Space in <br />Administration Building <br />FROM: Lynn Williams f UJ REFERENCES: <br />Acting Genp_r.al Services Director <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />At the April 28, 1982 meeting the Board instructed Staff to work <br />with Civil Defense Division to design a workable space in the County <br />Administration Building. Staff was instructed to consider a 2 to 3 <br />year solution to this problem. <br />Civil Defense originally requested 4100 square feet in the Admin- <br />istration Building with a far more elaborate design. The Board <br />discussed the need for an EOC as opposed to a Civil Defense Office. <br />P <br />The present Civil Defense office is need of major repairs, major <br />electrical problems exist. The size of the -Civil Defense office <br />is 800 square feet, which is not adequate during an emergency. <br />Staff has explored the area proposed in the Administration Building. <br />ALTERNATIVE AND ANALYSIS <br />The latest floorplan submitted by Civil Defense is for an area of <br />about 2500 square feet. This request is considered as the minimum <br />Civil Defense can efficiently operate an Emergency Operations Center. <br />It will consume approximately two-thirds of the future expansion <br />area available in the Administration Building. <br />Staff conservatively estimates the cost to remodel the area with <br />eletrical, air conditioning, walls and flooring to be at least $25,000. <br />� � r <br />
