SANITARY SEWER SUB -ELEMENT <br />POLICY 6.2: Issuance of development orders or permits shall ( -_ <br />ble federal, state and local permit requirements for on-site <br />wastewater treatment systems. However, the Land Development <br />Regulations, when adopted, shall require the connection to a <br />centralized sanitary sewer facility, within sixty days of <br />connection. <br />POLICY 6.3 By September—lj490;the-cou-mt"ha-1-1--amend local <br />ordinances to require that issuance of permits for <br />replacement or expansion of existing on-site wastewater <br />treatment systems be conditioned upon compliance with the <br />most updated version of DER and HRS regulatory_ requirements <br />and Federal and State water -quality--standards as identified <br />on page 23 of the Sub -element. <br />POLICY 6.4: The Utilities Department shall develop guide- <br />lines for operation and maintenance of package treatment <br />plants, u izing private sector sources for implementation. <br />POLICY 6.5: The county, in coordination with the County <br />Public Health Unit, Division, of Environmental Health, shall <br />establi-sly---publ.ic- education programs on—the- proper use, t/ <br />inspection requirements, maintenance, and abandonment <br />septic tanks. The tank abandonment process shall be based on <br />current state and local regulations. <br />POLICY 6..6,:, All new package wastewater treatment plants <br />shall . beuaccording to he current federal, state and <br />local requirements.
