If he was saying it was <br />one-upsmanship on the part of Judge Stikelether as opposed <br />to the County Commission, he was wrong. The Judge stated he <br />would like to see the Judge and the County Commission, and <br />not versus, in search for truth and find the solution to <br />this problem for everyone's benefit; not just for just <br />himself and Mrs. Edwards, but for the people that work in <br />that environment. <br />Chairman Scurlock commented that we live in a small <br />community and know each other pretty well and he had <br />respected the Judge for a great deal of time. Based on all <br />the information up to this morning, he had intended to tell <br />the Judge to get back into the courtroom as this community <br />could not afford the price of uncertainty in the dollars in <br />order to make an environment safe and sound. The suggestion <br />that a leave of absence would be what is going to bring <br />about a remission in the Judge's condition - that was a hard <br />decision for him to make. After hearing the information <br />today, and reviewing the statistics to indicate the Judge's <br />caseload is about double that of similar county judges, he <br />thought Commissioner Lyons' solution was the only possible <br />one to use and that was to find the Judge some additional <br />quarters for a temporary period of time. The Chairman added <br />that if an additional judge was needed, obviously he could <br />occupy the existing quarters without renovations. The <br />fourth courtroom would be available within the next year or <br />so which would give time for the Judge's conditions to <br />improve; this would give the Board time to plan and research <br />the new courtroom and construct it in a way that was both <br />financially reasonable and meet the Judge's needs. The <br />Chairman was happy other options were made available because <br />it would have been very hard for him to look a man you <br />respect in the eye and tell him he was expected to go back <br />into the courtroom.
