� MAY <br />181983 ACK . <br />5,26 <br />Board members commented on the fact that it is very <br />difficult to assimilate material handed out at the last <br />moment, and Commissioner Lyons stated that he would prefer <br />to meet every Wednesday and have a chance to study the <br />agenda material prior to the meeting rather than operate on <br />an emergency basis every two weeks. <br />Commissioner Scurlock noted that this is a very <br />important matter and he does not like what seems to be <br />happening with the State interfering in our local affairs. <br />He felt that we have done a good job locally and believed it <br />is an insult to be stepped on this way. <br />Commissioner Bowman disagreed entirely. She did agree <br />that we have our own county planning and development in <br />order, but St. Lucie County has not and we are being <br />severely impacted by their development. <br />Chairman Bird asked if Mr. King was going to ask for <br />any action today, and Mr. King stated that if the Commission <br />felt uncomfortable with making a decision today, he would <br />recommend having an additional meeting. He understood the <br />Board's concerns about getting information at the last <br />minute, but noted that they really did work hard to get this <br />information -together and assumed this would be better than <br />having to call a Special Meeting. <br />The Board continued to express concern about the State <br />taking over decisions that should be made locally, and <br />Chairman Bird suggested that the Commission listen to the <br />presentation and then decide if they wish to call a Special <br />Meeting. <br />Community Development Director King informed the Board <br />that Sam Shannon and Lincoln Walther of the Treasure Coast <br />Regional Planning Council were present, as well as Rob Magee <br />of the State Department of Community Affairs. <br />Mr. King then reviewed the purpose of the Hutchinson <br />Island Resource Planning & Management Committee, noting that <br />
