something that would have to be settled by the County <br />Commission. <br />Commissioner Wodttke agreed that it would be wise to <br />wait at least a year, and Chairman Bird also felt the public <br />would not fault the Commission if we did delay a year in ' <br />order to make an intelligent decision. <br />Administrator Wright noted that staff was advocating a <br />change in taxing philosophy, and he believed that is <br />difficult to get across in 30 days. <br />Commissioner Scurlock brought up the severe impact <br />heavy truck traffic has had on AlA, for instance, and <br />believed the user should pay. <br />Commissioner Wodtke commented that it seems there has <br />been a lot of publicity by the press that the Transportation <br />Committee favored a 4� gas tax. -- <br />Commissioner Scurlock did not believe the <br />Transportation Planning Committee took any position on it, <br />but merely asked the municipalities to express their <br />desires. The initial input was that the municipalities <br />favored the tax, but then they changed. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wodtke, for the Transportation Planning <br />Committee to be authorized to set up a sub -committee <br />including people not necessarily on the committee, and <br />to use a reasonable amount of staff time to come up <br />with all the facts involved in connection with- a <br />possible gas tax and give us the information in suffi- <br />cient time for consideration for next year's budget <br />session. <br />Bill Brengle, member of the A.A.R.P., noted that the <br />radio had stated that discussion re the gas tax would be at <br />1:30 P.M. and he felt some people may show up at that time. <br />39 QQK 5.3 PAGE 729 <br />JUN 15 1993 <br />L <br />
