r5EP 211983 <br />. ­ I , _1 <br />544, <br />qac f <br />Considerable discussion followed in regard to modifying <br />Vista's request and cutting the commercial off at the South <br />Relief Canal. <br />Robert Gaskill felt that Vista has already established <br />a mile long buffer strip and that it was just logical to <br />assume that residential would not be the best use of the <br />property. <br />Commissioner Scurlock felt that if we went ahead and <br />modified this request, it would be easier for the Board to <br />draw a line at the Relief Canal and to be very cautious in <br />considering anything south of that line in the future. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Wodtke, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Bowman, that the <br />Board approve the 350 foot strip of Vista's <br />request. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt that he was going to vote <br />against this as it was premature and there were traffic <br />problems. He was not ready to break with what we have had <br />until some specific solution was found re traffic problems, <br />and Commissioner Bowman agreed. <br />Chairman Bird pointed out that Scotty's and others had <br />interest in this area as commercial property. He felt that <br />it was not premature, and whether we like it or not, there <br />was a demand for commercial property on U.S. #1. <br />Commissioner Wodtke agreed that we were always going to <br />have this problem along U.S. #1, but considered this to be a <br />different situation than opening up a fresh new piece of <br />property to commercial. He believed Vista would construct a <br />beautiful development. <br />Chairman Bird stated that it wasn't as if we were <br />taking a prime piece of residential and converting it to <br />60 <br />
