- M 'M <br />contract documents would be approximately another $18,000, <br />and the bid phase would be probably another $1,600. <br />Chairman Bird asked if Mr. Calmes felt the octagonal <br />configuration of his design contributed to the high cost, <br />and Mr. Calmes did not believe so. He pointed out that <br />although it. may take a bit longer to lay out the basic <br />. framework, it results in better utilization of the square <br />footage. <br />'4 <br />Chairman Bird suggested that we proceed with design of <br />the covered walkway, but only bid it as an alternative. <br />Commissioner Scurlock asked the Judge and attorneys <br />present if they would state that they would be happy for the <br />next five years if the Commission did build the architect's <br />design without the covered walkway, and Judge Smith and the <br />attorneys indicated that they would. <br />Sherman Smith, III, President of the local Bar <br />Association presented the Commission with a unanimous <br />Resolution of the Bar Association supporting the urgent need <br />for a fourth courtroom. He echoed the belief that this <br />courtroom would not be of a temporary nature, but would <br />probably be in use until the building fell down. <br />125 <br />N O V 16 1983 <br />
