can very easily come up with some recommendations, possibly <br />within 30 days. <br />Commissioner Bird stated that he would encourage the <br />committee to come up with a proposed formula as soon as <br />possible and get on with airing this out as much as we can <br />and then we can reach a decision. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt that we need some reaction from <br />the public as to how to approach this on a long haul over <br />the length of a 34 million dollar project. <br />Commissioner Wodtke emphasized that making a decision <br />that you are going to do the initial project, does not say <br />you are automatically going to do the restoration over a <br />period of all those years. All the engineers concur that <br />the only way to get the sand back on the beach is to pump it <br />there. However, there is a difference of opinion about what <br />we do to keep it there. Commissioner Wodtke pointed out <br />that at Wabasso Beach, we have put in dune crossovers, <br />planted seagrass on dunes, etc., and we need to get a good <br />vegetation program going. He emphasized that one good thing <br />about the program is that once you get started and have a <br />renourishment, then the next renourishment comes back in the <br />same funding formula (federal 500 - state 360 - local 140). <br />Chairman Scurlock felt we need to bring this to a head <br />as quickly as possible. We need something definite to take <br />out to the public. <br />Everyone agreed. <br />REPORT - TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING <br />Commissioner Lyons presented the following summary of <br />actions of the Transportation Planning Committee at their <br />meeting of May 8th, noting that the Committee came up with a <br />complicated formula re determining what street lights the <br />county will be responsible for: <br />MAY 2 3 1994 <br />L- <br />85 <br />BOOK 57 PAGE 248 <br />
