OCT 10 1984 <br />BOOK 58 FgCF�� <br />Sonny Dean, Director of General Services, presented <br />staff's analysis and recommendation that the Board approve <br />the purchase of the existing telephone system from AT&T. <br />Commissioner Bird asked if there was reasonable <br />assurance that the present system and equipment would be <br />adequate for five more years of service and Director Dean <br />assured him that was taken into consideration in the <br />analysis. <br />Commissioner Wodtke asked if the switchboard could be <br />expanded to accommodate two operators, and Director Dean <br />explained that extra equipment, such as additional trunks or <br />a larger board, could be purchased from Southern Bell. <br />There was some discussion about people receiving busy <br />signals when they call in and also the difficulty in getting <br />an outside line at certain times of the day, and noted that <br />perhaps more trunks are needed right now. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt we should purchase the existing <br />equipment, but Commissioner Wodtke suggested that we get <br />some prices from other firms, as his major concern was that <br />the present system might not be adequate five years down the <br />road. He recalled that when the County moved into this <br />building, it was felt that we bought the ultimate in phone <br />systems, but it wasn't very long before major changes were <br />needed. He wondered if we are confident that a year from <br />now we would not need a more sophisticated system. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Wodtke, that the <br />Board request staff to come back to the Board <br />in 30 days after getting figures from 2-3 other <br />firms and doing a cost analysis. <br />Lynn Williams, Building & Grounds Superintendent, <br />explained that the price AT&T quoted on this equipment <br />62 <br />
