r <br />77 <br />to giving away any county property and noted that this is close <br />to a drainage area. <br />Commissioner Bird pointed out that normally we have been <br />selling the property, but in this case it is so close to the <br />retirement center, it was felt it was valuable only to them. <br />Commissioner Wodtke noted that Mrs. Buckingham is still <br />living and is in the center, and he believed the family would <br />feel very comfortable about the center having this property. He <br />did not feel they could utilize the property for anything other <br />than a landscaped area. <br />Attorney Wilson did see any real use for the property and <br />noted there are drainage swales by both sides next to the road <br />and this cuts down the usable area. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wodtke, to instruct staff to contact <br />the Board of Directors of Florida Baptist Retirement <br />Center and indicate our interest in conveying the <br />subject parcel to them by quit claim deed and ask <br />for their response. <br />Commissioner Bowman noted that as long as it is in county <br />hands, the oaks will be protected, and she did not see why we are <br />so anxious to give it away, especially since it is not costing us <br />anything for maintenance. She felt it could be a nice passive <br />pocket park. <br />Commissioner Bird pointed out that it is no benefit to the <br />public in general and, in fact, could be a liability if it <br />remains in the county's name.
