grassed area, and the E.O.C. wants the two classrooms on each <br />side as well as the grassed area to the north of those buildings. <br />Commissioner Bird asked what would be done with the <br />remaining 5 or 6 classrooms. <br />Director Edwards stated that they have thought about phasing <br />one of their centers down at the old St. Peter's Church and <br />moving those three classrooms to Winter Beach. They then <br />wouldn't have to pay rent for that building and could use those <br />funds for the Douglas School. <br />Commissioner Bird inquired if this is a day care situation, <br />and it was explained that it is more than that; the hours are <br />longer; and it offers those mothers and fathers an opportunity to <br />earn a living and stay off welfare. <br />Chairman Lyons asked what would happen in regard to a <br />community center for the area, and Director Edwards stated that <br />the community could continue to have the cafeteria facility; <br />their only possible need for that facility would be for <br />graduations or a parent activity or something of that sort. <br />Question arose as to how they feed the children in the Head <br />Start Program, and it was pointed out that they would have a <br />kitchen in their area. <br />Discussion ensued re the water and sewer system for the site <br />and also as to the likelihood of their being funded. Director <br />Edwards stated that they have been assured they would receive the <br />funds if they could get the facility; although they do not <br />actually have anything in writing to that effect. <br />Chairman Lyons inquired what they are going to do'about a <br />sewer plant when they have only asked for $68,000, and <br />Administrator Wright felt they might be able to use a large <br />septic tank. <br />Michael Galanis of Environmental Health believed if this <br />involves only 40 or 50 small children and a small kitchen that <br />something could be designed, but even a small system would run <br />67 <br />N 0V 6 1985 <br />:BOOK 62 PArE 693 <br />A <br />
