{ <br />Planner Challacombe advised that the mangroves taken down <br />are part of a mosquito impoundment. There is an area along the <br />river that needs some additional mangroves, and it is an area <br />that will be a lot easier to plant than where the root systems <br />from the black mangroves presently exist. Rather than planting <br />the mangroves in the shoreline area, he would recommend planting <br />some spartina because that way volunteer mangroves could eventu- <br />ally take root there and be protected by the spartina grass. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wodtke, the Board unanimously <br />recommended a fine of $300 be collected, plus <br />restoration by planting spartina in the small <br />area that needs the mangroves; this restoration <br />planting to be done in coordination with Chief <br />Environmental Planner Challacombe. <br />APPLICATION FOR BEACH NOURISHMENT PROJECT <br />Public Works Director Davis reviewed the following memo, <br />noting that there is a deadline: <br />TO: - The Honorable Members of DATE: Jane, 30, 1986 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: <br />Michael Wright, SUBJECT: <br />County Administrator <br />Indian River County - Beach <br />Nourishment Project - FY 88 <br />Funding Application to DER <br />FROM: Jams W. Davis, P.E.; ' REFERENCES: <br />Public Works Director <br />The Public Works Staff has completed the DER application for FY88 funding <br />of the Beach Nourishment Project. This application must be submitted by <br />Feb. 6, 1986.
