DISCUSSION RE CONDITION OF 43RD AVENUE AND U.S. #1 <br />Commissioner Wodtke reported that the grass has grown to <br />over 5 feet tall along the northern stretch of U.S. #1, and it is <br />in a deplorable state. He realized that the State has cut its <br />budget for mowing, but believed this area to be extremely <br />hazardous, not only because of poor visibility, but because there <br />isn't any room to pull over and change a tire. <br />Chairman Scurlock noted that some residents up there are <br />cutting the grass along the sides of U.S. #1, and wonderedif <br />that was safe for them to do so. <br />Public Works Director Jim Davis pointed out that the State - - <br />has said that they have money to mow only once a year. <br />Commissioner Wodtke felt that 27th Avenue as it approaches <br />town is looking very bad since the State has taken it over, and <br />Commissioner Lyons felt that whenever we try to help the State, .-- <br />the less they seem to do for us. - - <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wodtke, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Lyons, the Board unanimously (4 -0) - <br />authorized staff to contact the DOT and lodge a <br />very strong complaint from this Commission about <br />the condition of the roads for which the State is <br />responsible and list them. <br />Commissioner Wodtke was concerned also about the speed <br />Limits along 43rd Avenue south of SR -60, and noted the recent <br />serious accidents that have occurred on that stretch. He wished <br />to ask the Transportation Planning Committee to look at that <br />stretch and get a list of the latest accidents that have <br />occurred, because the residents are asking for lower speed <br />Iimits. <br />Commissioner Lyons pointed out that a light is planned for <br />16th Street and 43rd Avenue, and Director Davis felt there is a <br />31 <br />AUG 2 6 1986 BOOK 65 FAGr 5?1 <br />
