This contractor has worked for them since <br />1978; they have a good working relationship with him; he is <br />bondable; and the price he has quoted is the same price he gave <br />for the John's Island bridge. Mr. McQueen noted that this is the <br />same contractor who was successful bidder on the two canal <br />crossings for the City. <br />Public Works Director Davis asked the Board if the City and <br />County were jointly cooperating in a project whether this work <br />could be accomplished as a change order to the City contract <br />rather than us having to go out competitively. <br />Attorney Vitunac did not believe state law would require us <br />to bid in this instance. We can have a private contract with the <br />City to contribute some money towards the project, and everyone <br />agrees this is a special deal which is in the public interest <br />because the price is so favorable. <br />Engineer McQueen explained how this would be done and the <br />savings involved for the City and County. <br />Commissioner Bird wished to be sure that Director Davis felt <br />this is a good deal, and he confirmed that he did. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously authorized <br />Public Works Director Davis to proceed on the above <br />project however is legal. <br />EXCHANGE OF PROPERTY DONATED BY THE LIER FAMILY <br />The Board reviewed the following memo, which it was felt was <br />self-explanatory: <br />64 <br />i <br />
