N <br />SEP 15 1937BOOK PACE 4®1- <br />NEED FOR CHILD/ADOLESCENT SERVICE IN COUNTY <br />Commissioner Eggert reviewed the following memo: <br />TO: Board of County DATE: September 9, 1987 FILE: <br />Commissioners <br />SUBJECT: Need for Child/Adolescent <br />Service in Indian River <br />County <br />FROM: Commissi.oneEgger <br />REFERENCES: <br />We have increasing needs for child/adolescent service in the <br />mental health and. drug rehabilitation care in Indian River <br />County. We have 40 adult beds going unused at Rivendell that <br />could be redesignated to child/adolescent to handle the 36 young <br />people they have on the waiting list. Rivendell is asking the <br />State for a redesignation. I wrote a personal letter because it <br />was needed by September 11, 1987. <br />I would like us to provide to Rivendell a letter signed by our <br />Chairman that contains the following information: <br />To Whom It May Concern: <br />At their meeting on September 15, 1987, the Board of County <br />Commissioners discussed the need for child and adolescent service <br />in Indian River 'County, and its increasing pressure on our <br />facilities. <br />Rivendell currently has a waiting list of 36 young people, yet <br />its adult beds go unused. <br />The Board of County Commissioners would like to have the 40 adult <br />beds at Rivendell redesignated to child/adolescent beds. We feel <br />it is more cost effective to fill currently available unused beds <br />rather then develop new ones. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Eggert, the Board unanimously authorized <br />the Chairman to sign a letter as set out above. <br />LIBRARY SITES <br />Commissioner Eggert reported that they had a meeting of the <br />three groups together - the Library Advisory Committee, the site <br />committee, and the planning committee - to bring them up to date <br />on the latest recommendation, one of which was the governmental <br />area downtown. <br />They seemed very positively oriented toward the <br />44 <br />
