- M M <br />Attorney Vitunac noted that if the time works out to be <br />insufficient, that can be changed later, and further noted there <br />is a section that prohibits ambulances being driven in a reckless <br />manner. <br />Commissioner Bird asked if Commissioner Eggert really feels <br />this ordinance is needed even though it is not mandated. <br />Commissioner Eggert advised that when she and Attorney <br />Vitunac talked to the state, it was indicated we should do this, <br />and she also felt it was needed in view of all the problems we <br />have been having. She stressed that rather than beinga <br />situation where we are trying to put the volunteers out of <br />business, she really would like to help the volunteer ambulance <br />squads stay volunteer as long as we can and felt this is a step <br />in that direction. <br />Attorney Vitunac further confirmed that these items were <br />suggested by the DHRS, and we were told it will be mandatory <br />pretty soon. We are authorized to adopt these now, and the state <br />says it will be mandatory shortly after the beginning of the <br />year. <br />Commissioner Bowman noted that the ordinance says pursuant <br />to Section 41.25, we are required to adopt standards. <br />Discussion followed on wording, and Commissioner Wheeler <br />suggested saying either required to do it or follow what the <br />state has set forth. He asked if there is a problem with doing <br />what is required by the state. <br />Commissioner Eggert explained that it does not cover a lot <br />of the problems we have been having. <br />Attorney Vitunac further explained that right now the <br />certificate we grant is simply part of an application from the <br />ambulance provider to Tallahassee, and Tallahassee makes all the <br />decisions.
