Attorney Vitunac noted we could just give some money to the <br />Sheriff to hire some personnel, and as soon as he is comfortable <br />with the people he has, we will go to Tallahassee through Percy <br />Folsom and get a variance to open the jail, but we can't go to <br />Tallahassee until the Sheriff can certify he is ready to open up <br />this facility. <br />Commissioner Bird asked when we received the staffing letter <br />from the D.O.C. that says what we have to have and shows us to be <br />13 short. How long have we known that? <br />Captain Reese answered about a week. <br />Discussion continued in regard to the amount of money to put <br />in the budget, the fact that the money probably would be phased <br />in anyway because the Sheriff will not be able to hire them all <br />at once, the fact that the Sheriff is not at full staff now, etc. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously authorized putting <br />up to $185,000 in the budget for the hiring of the <br />additional correctional personnel with the understanding <br />that we are trying to work out something with the D.O.C. <br />CONSULTING ENGINEERING FIRMS - SELECTION COMMITTEE REPORT <br />Administrator Balczun reviewed the following: <br />53 <br />MAR 11988 <br />BOOK 71 pqg. 151 <br />
