PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE (SUMMARY OF ACTIONS 8111188) <br />Commissioner Bird reviewed the following summary: <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE <br />SUMMARY OF ACTIONS <br />August 11, 1988 <br />During the 8/11/88 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, the <br />following actions were recommended to the Board: <br />1) Request for fishing pier <br />Correspondence was received from the Department of <br />Transportation that they have no objections to the <br />construction of a fishing catwalk under the 17th Street <br />bridge, nor do they object to the use of the old Merrill <br />Barber Bridge structure for a fishing pier when it is <br />replaced by a new bridge. <br />2. Lakes in Vero Lakes Estates Subdivision <br />There is some question about whether or not the County owns <br />any of the lakes in the Vero Lakes Estates Subdivision. Jim <br />Davis and the Legal Department was asked to research this. <br />If the County does not own the lakes, it was suggested that <br />a letter should be sent to the appropriate property owners <br />disclaiming any County liability for accidents occurring in <br />the lakes. <br />3. Request for Archery Range in Kiwanis/Hobart Complex <br />Mr. and Mrs. Cadenhead requested permission to lease <br />property in the Kiwanis/Hobart Park Complex for an archery <br />range. The Committee agreed in principle to the placement <br />of an archery range near the fairground. Staff is to check <br />into the validity of the archery club's insurance coverage, <br />and research the potential location. The legal staff was <br />asked to prepare a draft proposal leaving the lease fee <br />amount open, and the Cadenhead's are to bring a sketch of <br />the archery range to the next meeting. <br />4. Amendments to model racetrack lease, and request for <br />permission to serve food and drinks at same <br />Mr. Upton requested the following modifications to his lease <br />with the County for a model car racetrack at the <br />fairgrounds: <br />a) change name to Action Speedway, Inc. <br />b) Allow Action Speedway, Inc. to either contract with a <br />reliable sanitation service to provide port -o -lets at <br />the racing functions, or pay the County to provide and <br />maintain them. <br />Mr. Upton also asked permission to sell hotdogs, hamburgers <br />and soft drinks.
